God is my pacemaker
He teaches me how to run at His pace

The Lord is my pacemaker.

He teaches me how to run at His pace. He knows the journey ahead, He helps me keep in step with Him so I stay on track. I'm instructed where to stop and rest and where to find refreshments.
He knows how long the road and terrain is, and all the challenging parts along the way. He wants to keep me from stumbling and falling in the dangerous places, so I don't fall by the wayside. He wants me to get to the finish line in one piece to receive the prize.
The Lord teaches me how to implement the visions He gives me in a way that is wise and practical. He knows I want to sprint with every vision, but He wants me to learn how to conserve my energy for the marathon, not wear myself out with an all out charge. The Lord wants to teach me how to not carry unnecessary weights and burdens as I run that will bring me down. He is the one that is enabled to carry the heavy rucksack for me, that is not mine to carry. His shoulders are broad and heavy things are no big deal to Him. But they take my much needed strength and energy if I carry them which I'm not designed to do. The cross country marathon is long and the terrain is tough in places. Unnecessary burdens would cause me to stumble and fall when the going gets tough and God wants me save me from those perils.

The Lord has people along the way he wants me to run with. Some of them I will run with for a while, others will only be fleeting connections, for He is the one that will never leave my side.
At times He will tell me to keep going when I want to quit. When I'm weary from the climb and can't see the road ahead, He will turn to me and encourage me: ‘You can do this, keep going.’ As my thighs are screaming, my heart is pounding and my lungs bursting, I will keep in step with Him and trust His instruction. At other times He will stop me and tell me it's time to rest. He will refresh me with food and drink, massage my aching muscles and let me be restored and sleep if I need to in the fresh green grass, as I feel the warmth of the sun on my face. My body, soul and spirit are restored. For this race is set aside for me to win. Although I run and others run too, there is a prize waiting for me simply if I finish it. I'm not called to compare other’s speed or running techniques, their pacesetters or running aides. I am to concentrate on my race and my track.

There will be times I will stumble and fall, but the Lord is right by my side to bind up the cuts and bruises, rest and help me get up again. He heals the wounded places with His tender hands and voice.

He leads me off the beaten track to show me amazing views and hidden treasures. He knows the ordinary path is safe and secure, but lacks the adrenaline and adventure I yearn for. At the times I need assurance, He turns to me with His intense loving eyes that sparkle with purpose, fun and intimacy. I feel fully known, fully loved and fully cared for. I do not need to fear for He’s never going to leave my side. I'm not running alone. My race is His race. My goal is His goal. My medal is set aside for me to collect. Set aside just for me, if I don't quit, ‘Keep running child!’ I hear Him say ‘Keep in step with Me. I will help you complete the race at My pace and in My cadence. I know how to help you win your prize, set aside only for you. Keep your running shoes on, let’s run!’
I smile as I look down at my shoes and see the swoosh logo. ‘Just do it!’ I hear Nike say ‘Just do it!’ I hear Him echo. ‘Run, run, run with the vision. Run with purpose. Run!’
